UK Pension Transfer to New Zealand: Is It Right for You?

Deciding on whether to transfer a UK private pension to NZ can be one of the most complex decisions for Brits moving to New Zealand.

A lot of pensions are basically an investment pot which is complex enough but easier to figure out compared to UK private pensions that offer a guaranteed income.

As a Financial Adviser specialising on UK pensions, I've seen UK pensions where the income is too good, and the UK income is guaranteed. Keep it where it is.

On the other hand, I reviewed a pension this week where a client will expect to have a benefit of $2m total in the next 30 years, over and above the expected UK income. A no brainer.

Most situations are somewhere in between, and require expert advice.

If in doubt it is best to keep the guaranteed income in the UK. Start from that position but if you can see that it is Significantly advanatgeous for you to transfer - based on conservative assumptions, then obviously you should transfer.

For those in New Zealand trying to understand their UK pension decision, we are specialist experts who can help.
